WITH THANKS
WEYMOUTH Amateur Boxing Club has paid tribute to two groups for their loyal attendances at tournaments. Club president Gordon Nelmes handed a £250 thank you cheque to Weymouth's St John Ambulance. Sea Cadets from TS Boscawen provided the drummers for the recent successful amateur international between England and the USA at Weymouth Pavilion.
In gratitude for the work and for previous help Nelmes presented the cadet force with a cheque for £100.

PROFESSIONAL BOXER TRAINS AT OUR CLUB

PROFESSIONAL BOXER Ross Minter, who adopted Weymouth as his training camp for a title fight, has won his latest bout. Minter, son of former world middleweight champ Alan, put the disappointment of not facing Matthew Hatton for the vacant English welterweight belt, behind him as he successfully defended his Southern Area title against challenger Sammy Smith. Minter put Smith down in the second round and again in the third before the referee stopped the contest. Hatton had earlier pulled out of the title fight with Minter out of loyalty to his boxing brother Ricky who is involved in a contractual dispute with promoter Frank Warren.
